Paranormal Romance writing prompts

Paranormal Romance Writing Prompts

The challenge of writing paranormal romance in a market heavily saturated with many authors all clambering to be the next Stephane Myer or Laurell.K. Hamilton (I include myself in this) is the challenge of being a fresh voice.

Write a short paranormal romance story inspired by the above picture prompt

Finding a new way to present you vampires, werewolves or witches in a way that grabs your readers attention and holds it, is critical if we are looking for success in this wonderfully fun genre.

Bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon describes the genre below well...

"Define "Paranormal", eh? Well, the Webster's dictionary defines paranormal as "not scientifically explainable". In publishing, the term has come to mean anything "other" than normal (brides, babies, cowboys, dukes, rakes, pirates). For publishing purposes Paranormal is a blanket term that covers an entire range of not necessarily related types of stories. Futuristic and SF romance and all sorts of fantasy romance, -- time travel, angels, devils, fairies, vampires, reincarnation, psychics, etc -- are published under the label of paranormal. Me, I call it "The Weird Stuff" with pride, and get a great kick out of reading and writing"

This definition gives us writers a lot of options to play with, so look outside your comfort zone, try something a little different, if you normally write about vampires try writing a short romance story involving an alien. The options really are only limited by your own imagination.

The following writing prompts below are meant to be used as a kickstart to get you the writer started on something fresh. So if it's writing block or looking for something a little new to try, why not experiment with one or more of the following story starters, themes or picture prompts below.

Daily writing prompts for the third week of December

Writing prompts are a great way for writers of all experience levels to hone and practice their craft. By challenging the way we think or the writing ruts we may have allowed ourselves to fall in, we can open new path ways to wonderful and exciting journeys of the imagination.

The following daily writing prompts have been crafted from three types of creative exercises.
The first story starters are designed for you the writer to not only finish the sentence given but to continue the story until finished.

The second lot of prompts are the writing themes, designed with more freedom then the first, as they are more general in nature allowing for a more varied interpretation which can be used for either poetry or short stories.

The third and as I've said many times my personal favourite are the picture prompts.
Art is a great inspiration as the old saying goes "a picture is worth a thousand words" when using a picture prompt it is up to you the writer to find those words that tell the story of the artwork your using, often taking you far and beyond your own expectations ...

Try some of the daily writing prompts below I truly hope they help inspire your creative journey

Daily writing prompts for the fourth week of March

Be inspired

Choose a writing prompt for each day of the week, be it a story starter, writing theme or my personal favourite the picture prompt. Once you have chosen your creative writing prompt let the idea sit in your mind for an hour or two (if not longer) before sitting down to write. Set yourself a time limit that you will write without editing as you let your inner muse work for you. You may be happily surprised by the results that you can create and even if you are not, there are sure to be gems of ideas that you can return to later for inspiration. Enjoy…

Daily writing prompts for the Second week of March

Writing is meant to be a joy but so often it can be more like dragging the muse kicking and screaming from under the rock that she may be hiding under. It’s at times like these that I find using writing prompts (be they my own or others) can be a fast track method into making your muse work for you when and how you want it too. The more we write the more adaptable our creative side becomes. The following free writing prompts are all meant to aid you the writer in unlocking your creativity. I hope that you enjoy them

Write a short horror story or poem inspired by the above

Horror writing prompts are not only fun to create but are a great way to kick start your horror writing.  Creating your own horror prompts for your own use is very simple. In fact writing my own horror prompts is what prompted this blog. The three easiest ones are the ones I have focussed on, story starters, themes and picture prompts.

Daily writing prompts for the first week of February

Be inspired

the use of writing prompts as an aid to the creative writer is a great way to generate story ideas, over come writers block and help hone the craft of writing itself.  practising our craft by using writing exercises and prompts is a fantastic way to keep our creative muscles fit and ready to try anything, after all we are only limited by our imagination.
The writing prompts below are Story starters for short story writers while the writing themes are open to both short story writers and poets, and as always my favorite form of writing prompt the picture prompt
